Contrary to popular belief, I am all for gender-equality. In fact, I am so far in favor of equality, that I scare most self-termed "Feminists", who in reality want special treatment.
My apologies to all the intelligent women out there who have had their images inaccurately reflected by these so-called "Feminists." Hang tough, ladies, intelligence will eventually prevail.
Now for some of my careful analysis of traits a truly gender-equal system has.
- Equal pay for equal work
This is a key point that must be emphasized. This is similar to discrimination based on race or age in determining pay scale, as well. If two people work at the same skill level and have the same background and future potential, then they damn well ought to make the same amount of money.
- Equal leave time for new parents
Yup, you guessed it. Women ought to get maternity leave of a reasonable time-frame. No one should be expected (much less forced) to work a month after having a child. In addition, men should get the same aggregate time off in addition to normal leave, if their wife has a child. A child needs both parents to get off to the right start, and every husband should look after his wife after she has gone through the intense demands of childbirth. Additional leave time for men would help facilitate this.
- Women in Combat
Why shouldn't they be allowed to fight? If they want to serve their country, then we should stand up and applaud them. However, see the entry below. I say this, since, when someone is in a combat situation, the last thing they need to think about is whether their teammate can cover them. It is assumed that one's teammate can and will do so, and having a lower fitness standard for one sex means that assumption will no longer hold.
- Equal military requirements
If women are to be given the exact same placement options as men, then they should also meet the exact same qualifications. In this, I include military placement test scores, physical fitness requirements and basic training environment. If women are equal, why do they have to do 1/2 to 1/3 the number of push-ups to be considered physically fit? Fitness is fitness and a double-standard is a wholly incorrect approach.
- Similar play emphasis
Why are little girls societally taught to play with dolls in the USA? In other countries, they learn to play creatively with toys that range from Erector Sets to Legos, just like the boys. This doll-emphasis is one of the reasons why so few women are going into technology-related fields: they are systematically taught since childhood to fear technology, by an older generation that does not fully understand it. Those children who pick up on technology as a natural extension to their lives, do so because they emulate their parents, who are most likely technology-savvy. Hopefully, this will be fixed as my generation raises its children. As a final note, I know quite a few women who are excellent code-hackers (programmers for all you uninitiated folks), some of whom are far better than any guys I know. This should be encouraged, not stepped on.
- Paying for dinner
OK, I know I'm not poor, but nor am I rich. Why is it expected that a guy pay for dinner, especially on the first date? Doesn't this set a bit of a dangerous tone to the relationship? Is there really anything wrong with going Dutch? (Unless you are dating a German girl, in which case you need to ask to go Dutch in Deutsch. Yikes!)
